Burton Auto Co. was established in 1919. In the early years, it sold Maxwell
cars and various petroleum products. It was one of the earliest Texaco dealers
in the area operating from 1926 until 1988. During that time, it also sold and
repaired T-Model Fords and even had a small liquor store in one corner of the
building. The addition to the back of the garage and its distinctive canopy
date back to 1928. The Burton Auto Garage represents the thrift and hard work
of August W. Muehlbrad and his wife, Lillie.
The Burton Auto Garage is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Although
the building underwent stabilization a few years ago, it is in need of major
restoration. The garage is currently not open to the public.
