Burton Farmers Gin

Burton Auto Garage
400 Block Main Street
Burton, Texas

Burton Auto Co. was established in 1919. In the early years, it sold Maxwell cars and various petroleum products. It was one of the earliest Texaco dealers in the area operating from 1926 until 1988. During that time, it also sold and repaired T-Model Fords and even had a small liquor store in one corner of the building. The addition to the back of the garage and its distinctive canopy date back to 1928. The Burton Auto Garage represents the thrift and hard work of August W. Muehlbrad and his wife, Lillie.

The Burton Auto Garage was gifted to Operation Restoration, Inc., now Burton Cotton Gin & Museum, Inc. on April 17, 1995, by Peggy Felder and Edsel W. Muehlbrad. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Although the building underwent stabilization a few years ago, it is in need of major restoration. Because of this, it is not presently available for tours. Burton Cotton Gin & Museum is looking for donors to help in the restoration of this significant structure.
